VMware server 2
This software is installed to new departmental sandbox servers:
- ct100020.pc.lut.fi (outside university firewall)
- ct100018.pc.lut.fi (inside university firewall)
- www2.it.lut.fi (only if needed for specific reasons)
Install and basic configuration
- download VMware server 2 from vmware website, write down serial number needed for installation
- install using
yum –nogpgcheck install VMware-server-2.0.0-122956.x86_64.rpm - run configuration script
/usr/bin/vmware-config.pl- allow bridged networking
- name: Bridged virtualdevice: vmnet0 realdevice: eth0
- name: Bridged1 virtualdevice: vmnet2 realdevice: eth1
- allow NAT networking
- name: NAT virtualdevice: vmnet8 private subnet: 192.168.123.0
- “host only” networking allowed
- name: HostOnly virtualdevice: vmnet1 private subnet: 192.168.169.0
- remote connection port: 902
- standard http port: 8222
- secure http port: 8333
- vmware admin: vmware
- virtual machine directory: /srv/vmware
- VMware VIX API binary files: /usr/bin
- VMware VIX API library files: /usr/lib/vmware-vix/lib
- VMware VIX API document pages: /usr/share/doc/vmware-vix
Some problems with browser compabilities
At least firefox 3.6 does not work fully with virtualserver webaccess software, remote console functionality is broken and you can't get get access to console of virtual machine.
