Machine Vision and Pattern Recognition Research Group (MVPR) was established in 2000 and renamed Laboratory from 2009. Its most important goal is to perform high quality and internationally respected research on machine vision and pattern recognition. The laboratory also serves the national industry as an expert organisation, performs applied research and produces new engineers with MSc and PhD degrees specialised in machine vision and pattern recognition.

Research collaboration

The laboratory collaborates with many national and several international research groups. The most important international partners in co-operation are Centre for Vision, Speech, and Signal Processing (CVSSP), University of Surrey, UK, and Centre for Autonomous Systems (CAS), Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan (KTH), Sweden. The most important national partner is Color Research Group, University of Joensuu. The main forms of the collaboration are PhD student and post-doc research visits and research projects.

The laboratory also collaborates with several national research laboratories and institutes within its applied research projects.
