Machine Vision and Pattern Recognition Laboratory (MVPR) was established in 2009 and continues work of the former Machine Vision and Pattern Recognition Research Group at Lappeenranta University of Technology. Our main objective is to perform high quality research on computational vision and modelling, machine learning, and pattern recognition. The laboratory also serves industry as an expert organization, performs applied research and educates experts in its research fields.

Our research interests include object detection and recognition, multi-modal estimation and control for robotics, visual inspection, retinal image processing and analysis, and modeling of photoactive biomolecules.

Our research is funded by Academy of Finland, European Commission, Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation (Tekes), as well as private companies. We co-operate with many national and international research groups, including Centre for Vision, Speech, and Signal Processing (CVSSP), University of Surrey (UniS), UK, Centre for Autonomous Systems (CAS), Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan (KTH), Sweden, Center for Machine Perceptron (CMP), Czech Technical University (CVUT), Czech Republic, and Color Research Group, University of Eastern Finland (UEF).
